Returning home, he raised his family and practiced gastroenterology/internal medicine in Millburn, NJ for over 30 years.
Al was an avid hunter, and expert trap shooter. He loved sending away for and collecting various cool new gear. A true cigar aficionado, Al enjoyed grilling and barbecue get-togethers with relatives.
Alfred is survived by his mother Anna Helwig (nee McKinley); his beloved wife Penny Helwig (nee Volpe); loving children Jonathan Helwig and his wife Kaitlyn, and Chase Helwig; and by his brothers Gregory, Noel, Robert and Kyle.
