Anthony “Pop” Mistretta, 94, of Whiting and Kenilworth, N.J., died peacefully on Sunday, Oct. 16, surrounded by his loving family.

The visitation on Tuesday, Oct. 18, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services on Wednesday morning at the funeral home, followed by burial at Graceland Memorial Park in Kenilworth.

Pop was born in Newark, in 1922.

He was married to Jennie (nee DeCicco) for 43 years before she passed in 1988.

Pop was part of the greatest generation. He served in the U.S. Army, 4511th AAF Base Unit. He had an American Theater Ribbon and a Victory Medal. He worked as a butcher in the supermarket industry.

He was very active and enjoyed traveling, woodwork, bowling, shuffleboard, Yankees and Giants games, Bingo, Atlantic City, and spending time with his family – all into his 90s.

Pop was predeceased by his parents, Giovanni Mistretta and Giovannia Oliviera; four siblings; and a grandson, Matthew Mistretta.

He is survived by a sister, Anna Giovia; a brother, Joseph Mistretta; four sons, John Mistretta (and wife, the late Ellen), Anthony Mistretta Jr. and wife Lisa, Joe Mistretta (and partner, the late Eileen Shea), and Dennis Mistretta and wife Maryanne; nine grandchildren, T.J. Hanratty and husband Joe, Jason Mistretta, Anthony Mistretta III and wife Andrea, Luke Mistretta and wife, Tara, Jonathan Mistretta and wife Kate, Krystal Poelstra, Brooke Poelstra, and Alexandra Bryans; and four great-grandchildren, Brennan Hanratty, Sienna Mistretta, Dylan Mistretta, and Christian Mistretta; and many more relatives.
