Mr. Armando D. Antunes passed away peacefully on Wednesday May 8, 2024. Mr. Antunes was born in the civil parish of Castelejo in Fundao, Portugal on January 6, 1940. He moved to the United States as a teenager and resided in Newark, N.J. where he ultimately met the love of his life, Joanna Isabell DaSilva. The couple wed in October 1963.
Mr. Antunes was employed, his entire working career, at General Motors Assembly Plant in Linden, N.J. He and Joanna made their home in Hillside, N.J. and raised a family. His passion for the New York Cosmos, the New York Rangers and cheering on his grandchildren from the sidelines was apparent to all who had the honor of knowing him. A humble, kind and empathetic man, Mr. Antunes was predeceased by three brothers, Antonio, Virgilio and Augusto. This devoted husband, father and grandfather is survived by his wife of 60 years, Joanna, two children, son Steven (Mary) and daughter Lisa, and four grandchildren, Alec, Emily, Ryan, and Evan.
Viewing to be held at Galante Funeral Home in Union, N.J. on Sunday May 12, 2024, between the hours of 3 and 7 pm. The funeral mass will be Monday, May 13, 2024 11 am Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart in Newark followed by interment at Holy Cross Cemetery in North Arlington.
