Carl Barry

Carl was born and raised in Lima, Peru. Carl is a Law School Graduate from the University of San Marcos in Lima, Peru and served in the Peruvian Armed Forces and worked as a Detective with the Lima, Peru Police Department for 13 years.  Carl’s love for freedom drew him to the United States where he settled in Elizabeth, NJ in the late 1970s with his wife and two daughters. In 1980 Carl’s family expanded with the birth of their third daughter. Carl was remarried in the late 1990s and resided with his loving wife Gaby of 22 years in Elizabeth until his passing.

Although formally retired in 2010, Carl continued working as an Owner/Operator for several companies and lastly at Heptarun Trucking Co. in Union, NJ until his passing.  Carl attended both Kean and Montclair Universities.  He was a strong believer in the importance of family and an education and instilled these values in his daughters. He enjoyed watching Spanish soap operas and crime shows and especially cherished time with family and friends.  Carl’s laughter, sense of humor and quick wit will be greatly missed by everyone.  Carl had a knack for joking and embarrassing his daughters with his funny public dances.  You’ll always be dancing in our hearts Daddy!

Carl passed away at Morristown Medical Center alongside his wife and daughters on February 27, 2022 at the age of 78.  Beloved son of Humberto and Rosa, he is survived by his wife Gaby Ruiz, and beloved father of Paola Commins (son-in-law Michael), Romi Castano, and Sheila D’Egidio (son-in-law Nick) and beloved grandfather of Nicky, Noah, and Nash.

It’s hard to incapsulate a lifetime of love and memories shared with our father and family in a few paragraphs.  We love you so much Daddy and we already miss you so much, but your love, discipline, and passion will live on in your daughters and in your grandchildren and all those whose lives you’ve touched. You have always been and will be our real-life hero!

Funeral arrangements by the Galante Funeral Home in Union at 2800 Morris Avenue in Union.  Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 3rd from

4:00 to 6:00 PM.

Family and friends may gather for the funeral Mass at St. Catherine of Siena Church on Friday, March 4th at 10:00AM located at 1000 North Broad Street in Hillside. Entombment will follow the Mass at St Gertrude Catholic Cemetery at 53 Inman Avenue, Colonia.
