Carl P. Guarino

Carl P. Guarino of Millburn, N.J. passed away in his sleep at home, Friday, May 18, 2018.

He was born January 27, 1928, in Newark, N.J., son of Nicola and Maria (D’Lisio) Guarino, the 11th of 14 children.

He lived a remarkable life.

Forever self reliant, as a teenager, Carl worked during the day while attending Barringer High School at night, graduating in 6 years.

Then, in the same fashion, he attended Seton Hall University, South Orange, N.J., until he entered the Army, serving in the Korean War.

Following his service, Carl completed his studies at Virginia Polytechnic Institute, Blacksburg, VA.

On June 6, 1953, he married the love of his life, the former Theresa D. Gambrino, who predeceased him in 1999.

They remain happily in love.

He was employed by Fedders Corporation, Edison, N.J. where he worked as a supervisor, and, in his later years, at B & M Finishers, Kenilworth, N.J.

Carl was a passionate man who loved life and was devoted to his family.  He was a creative individual who loved home building, carpentry, birds, especially cardinals, gardening, going out for a big breakfast, ballroom dancing, poker, Christmastime, neatness, organization, efficiency, industrial strength cleaners, bleach, and a good laugh.

He is survived by his three children, Carl P. Guarino, Jr., M.D. and his wife, Donna;

Lisa M. Tutela and her partner, David Gifford; Gina T. Ryan and her husband, Peter;

eight grandchildren:  Karla and Alexander Piedl; Jessica and Nicholas Guarino; Michael, Patrick, Thomas and Theresa Ryan;

in addition to his sisters, Leonora Soriano and Julie Magro, and many loving nieces, nephews and friends.

He will be sorely missed.
