Carla Mazzarella

Carla Mazzarella (nee Reznak) passed away at Saint Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston, NJ on June 10th, 2016 surrounded by her loving family after fighting a courageous two and a half year battle with leukemia.

Born in Irvington, Carla Mazzarella lived in Irvington before moving to South Orange. After graduating from Marylawn of the Oranges High School in South Orange and receiving her bachelor's degree in Zoology from Rutgers University in Newark, Mrs. Mazzarella began a career teaching the sciences that spanned over thirty years, educating countless elementary, middle and high school students. Most recently she served as the science teacher for the middle school at St. Brendan School in Clifton and as a substitute teacher at Our Lady of Sorrows School in South Orange.

Mrs. Mazzarella was passionate about her family and deeply committed to her husband, Dr. Frank Mazzarella, whom she met at a high school dance in 1969, married in 1979 and together raised two children, Steph Mazzarella and Jerry Mazzarella and lovingly welcomed their spouses, Aileen and Michelle. Carla’s warmth and generosity did not end with her immediate family, rather, she treated everyone fortunate enough to have her in their lives as family, through the amazing meals she prepared to the elaborate holidays and gatherings she planned to her fierce loyalty and compassion.

Carla was predeceased by her parents, Martin P. Reznak, Jr. and Theresa Reznak (nee Appollina). In addition to her husband and children Carla is survived by her brother Martin P. Reznak, III, her Appollina, Chupka, and Vai cousins, her sisters-in-law Francine Galante and her husband Victor, Diane Orangeo and her husband Robert, her nieces, nephews, great nephew and her many friends. Carla was happiest surrounded by her family and friends, and she will be sorely missed.

The family prefers flowers or donations to the Clara Mass Foundation.
