Carmela "Marie" Baptista

Carmela Marie Baptista (nee Parrillo) 90 of Newark died on Saturday March 1, 2014 at Cornell Hall Convalescent Center in Union.

The funeral will be from the Galante Funeral Home 2800 Morris Ave. Union on Thursday at 9 am. The funeral mass will be in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Newark (Ironbound) at 10:30 am.

Interment will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery in North Arlington. Visitation is on Wednesday from 4-8 pm.

Born in Newark she was a lifelong resident of the Ironbound section. She was a salesperson for Steinberg's Dept. Store in Newark for 20 years and Gertrude's Fashions in  South Orange for 14 years, before retiring 15 years ago. She received many awards in the fashion industry over the years. She was also a Democratic District Leader in the Ironbound section of Newark for many years.

Marie was married to her late Husband Leo (Nappy) Baptista for many years, and is the daughter of the  of the late Jennie (nee Pacelli) and James Parrillo Sr. She also is the sister of Jimmy (Baloney)  Parrillo .
