Carmen T. Scialfa
Carmen T. Scialfa, 83, of Union, NJ, passed away Saturday, October 4, 2014. Visitation will be at Galante Funeral Home, 2800 Morris Ave., Union, NJ, on Tuesday, October 7 from 4 to 9 pm. The funeral will be Wednesday at 8:30 AM at the Funeral Home and at 10:00 am at Little Flower Church, 310 Plainfield Ave., Berkeley Heights, NJ. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington, NJ.
Born in Newark, NJ, Mr. Scialfa lived in Union for 53 years. Carmen served in the United States Marine Corps from 1952-1954, and is a veteran of the Korean War. He opened his own business, Carmen's Food Market, in Newark in 1954, moving the business to Berkeley Heights as Carmen's Meats in 1967, expanding the business to Carmen's Caterers in 1980 and retiring in 1998.
He was a member for over 50 years and Past President of the Union Chapter of UNICO National; and also a member of Union VFW Michael A. Kelly Post # 2433, The Disabled American Veterans and the Suburban Chamber of Commerce of Berkeley Heights, NJ.
Carmen was married to his wife, Marie (Ginger) (nee Sauchelli) for 59 years, and was the father of Carl Scialfa and the late Mary Scialfa, and father-in-law of Deborah Scialfa. He was pre-deceased by his brothers Augustine, Charles, Joseph and Angelo Scialfa; and Joseph, Bill, Charles, and Salvatore Marino, Rose Mascera, Angie Costanzo, and Lena Remondelli. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
