Carmine Anthony Granato, 97, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Sunday May 28, 2017.

The funeral is from the Galante Funeral Home, 2800 Morris Avenue, Union, on Friday, June 2nd at 9:30 a.m.,

thence to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, Newark,(Ironbound), for the funeral mass at 11:00 a.m.

Interment will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery in North Arlington, NJ.

Visitation is Thursday, June 1st from 4-8 p.m. at the Galante Funeral home, 2800 Morris Avenue, Union.

Carmine was born on April 2, 1920, in the Ironbound section of Newark, N.J.  As a young man, he enjoyed boxing and was always dedicated to his family.  He worked for New Jersey Tobacco for 25 years.  He later retired and became a Detective for The Essex County Sheriff's Department, where he worked over 12 years.  He was the respected East Ward Republican Chairman for over 40 year, Commissioner of the Board of Elections for more than 25 years, and Commissioner of the Alcohol Beverage Control Board for over 20 years.

Carmine and his beloved wife, Mary  lived in Newark their entire life. Carmine was a Husband, Father, Grandfather, Great-Grandfather, and Brother.  His life was based on faith and family.   He always believed his faith would carry him through everything.  He loved his family and put their well being above all else.

He was the beloved husband of Mary for 70 years (nee Capriglione) devoted father of Mary Mavilla, Geraldine Marano and her husband Carmen, Alfonso and Carolyn and son Carmen.  The cherished grandfather of Anna Marie, Frank, Carmen, and John, great-grandfather to Michael, Gianna, Isabella, Anthony, Carmen, Dominic and Sophia, and a new member of our family William, and dear brother of Nancy Delorenzo and Jerry Granato.

He will remain in our hearts forever.
