Casimir J. “Cas” Skrec

Casimir J. “Cas” Skrec, 87, of Union NJ., passed away peacefully at home surrounded by friends and family on June 13, 2016.

Funeral will be from the Galante Funeral Home on Friday at 8:00 AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at Holy Spirt Church in Union at 9:45 AM. Interment will follow at Hollywood Memorial Park in Union.

Cas retired as a warehouse and traffic manager from Troy Chemical in Newark in the late ‘90s. He previously worked at Griffith Labs in Union, where he met his future wife.

Cas umpired countless softball games, primarily in men’s leagues around Union County and the surrounding area. He was also a basketball official at the recreational and CYO levels.

Cas was an avid fan of professional and collegiate sports, but his greatest passion was the youth level and scholastic contests, and any other extra-curricular activities which involved his children and grandchildren. He was a steady presence at Roselle Catholic High School athletic events for three decades, especially girls’ basketball games in The Lions’ Den.

Cas grew up in Scranton, Pa. before moving to New Jersey.

Cas is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years, Mary Ann (Conforti); his beloved children, Joseph Skrec, and his wife, Laura; and Suzanne Whalen , and her husband, Tom; his cherished grandchildren, Michael, Allison, Ashley, Casey and Sydney;  a loving sister-in-law, Terry Amorim and many nephews, nieces and cousins
