It is with the heaviest heart that we announce the passing of Caterina Morgera D’Agostino, 91, in Long Branch, NJ.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation for Caterina at the Galante Funeral Home, 2800 Morris Ave. Union on Wednesday December 15 from 3-7 PM. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Newark on Thursday at 9:30 AM. Entombment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.
Born in Ischia, Napoli, Italy on November 5, 1930, Caterina, was the daughter of the late Giuseppe and Maria Antonia Morgera (née D’orta.) A seamstress by trade, she lived in Buenos Aires, Argentina for 41 years, and moved to her beloved Newark, NJ in 1972. She worked for United Fur Cutters in the early 70s and eventually retired from the Newark Board of Education in the cafeteria staff. She was a founding member of the society of La Madonna Della Fontana and a faithful servant to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, both in Newark. She was the strength and pillar of her family as she endured and persevered two migrations. She was loved for her blunt and bold honesty and her spirited advice.
Caterina was predeceased by her baby son Salvatore, husband of 55 years Giuseppe D’Agostino, her brothers and sisters Conceta, Antonia, Ana, Francesco, Angel. Mother of Maria Capik and Daniel D’Agostino and his partner Sarah Paulino; grandmother of Alexa and Juliana D’Agostino , mother-in-law of the late John Capik, and aunt to over 50 nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations to Our Lady of Mt Carmel Church Building Fund, 259 Oliver St. Newark, NJ 07105 in her memory.
