Catherine A. (Kay)  Shaughnessy (nee Brescia) 85, of Springfield, died on Saturday August 9, 2014, at Overlook Medical Center in Summit.

The funeral will be from the Galante Funeral Home 2800 Morris Ave. Union on Wednesday at 9 am. The Funeral Service will be held  in St. Stephen Church in Millburn at 11 am. The interment will follow in St. Stephen Cemetery, also in Millburn. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 4-8 pm.

Born in Jersey City she lived in East Orange, and Cranford, before moving to Springfield 7 years ago. She was a secretary for the Essex County Department of Probation in East Orange for 20 years until she retired 25 years ago. She was fondly known as "Ma" to her loving family and friends.

Kay was married to her late husband Maurice J. Shaughnessy for 37 years until he passed away in 1987. She is the mother of Kathleen Shaughnessy-Conway and her husband Tim, Maureen Zambolla and her husband Thomas, Kevin and his wife Colleen Shaughnessy, and Michael and his wife Robin Shaughnessy. She is also the sister of the late Mary Leach, Dominick, and Joseph Brescia. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
