Charles Farinella, a retired school principal, died on July 31, 2016 at Mountainside Hospital. Born in Newark, he lived in North Caldwell for 26 years, until he moved to Crane's Mill in West Caldwell, NJ in 1999.
He graduated from Montclair State University with a B.A. in 1948, and a Masters Degree in 1952 from Seton Hall University where he received his Principals and Supervisors certificate.
Charles taught in Newark for 15 years before being appointed Vice Principal. Later, he was Principal of South Street School for 15 years before retiring in 1982.
After retiring, he spent winters in Siesta Key, Sarasota, Florida. He was a member of Essex County Retired Educators Assn. and a volunteer worker at Notre Dame Church where he was also a member.
Charles was predeceased by his wife Dorothy (Mignone) Farinella and his parents. He is survived by his brother in law Raymond A. Mignone, his sister in laws Catherine and Doris Mignone, his dear cousin Franco DiGiangi and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
At Crane's Mills, Charles was often referred to as the "Mayor of Crane's Mill." He was very active, he helped many with program, videos, and was always meeting new residents. He taught English as a second language to the workers at Crane's Mill. He enjoyed living there very much.
Visitation for Charles will be held on Wednesday Aug. 3 from 4-8 PM at Galante Funeral Home, 54 Roseland Ave, Caldwell, NJ, 07006.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday at 9:30 AM at Notre Dame Church.
Entombment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in East Hanover, NJ.
