David S. Weekley, a beloved resident of Down Neck Newark, passed away on January 10, 2024, at University Hospital in Newark, NJ. He was a dedicated warehouseman who devoted many years of his life to Maher Terminal in Newark.
Born and raised in Newark, David had a deep connection to his hometown throughout his life. He took great pride in being a lifelong resident of Down Neck Newark and formed lasting relationships with his close-knit group of friends who shared the same love for the community.
David had many passions in his life, but two that stood out were horse racing and sports. He found immense joy and excitement in attending races at Monmouth Park and Tampa Bay Downs. The thrill of watching those magnificent animals race around the track was something David cherished deeply.
In addition to horse racing, David was an ardent fan of the Green Bay Packers and the New York Yankees. His enthusiasm for both teams was infectious, and he loved nothing more than cheering them on during their games. Whether it was rooting for the Packers during football season or passionately following the Yankees' baseball pursuits, David's loyalty knew no bounds.
David's passing leaves a void in the lives of his surviving family members and friends who held him dear. He will be forever remembered by his sister Anne Bergamotto, brother-in-law Rick "Berg" Bergamotto, as well as his loving nephew Ryan Bergamotto and Ryan's wife Jayde. Their memories of David will be cherished dearly as they continue to carry him in their hearts.
He is preceded in death by his father Samuel C. Weekley and mother Genevie Prignano Weekley. David also cherished the special bond he had forged with his nephew, the late Richard Bergamotto, Jr.
The legacy of David S. Weekley is one of dedication, passion, and unwavering loyalty. His years of service as a warehouseman exemplify his strong work ethic and commitment to his craft. Those who crossed paths with David found a loyal friend, a shoulder to lean on, and someone who always had Newark's best interests at heart.
While we bid farewell to David, let us take solace in celebrating the vibrant life he lived. He will forever be remembered for his love of horse racing, his unwavering support for the Green Bay Packers and New York Yankees, and the close friendships he fostered throughout his lifetime. May his soul find eternal peace, knowing that he touched the lives of so many during his time with us.
Friends and family are invited to come celebrate David's life at a 9:30 am Memorial Mass at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 259 Oliver St. Newark on Tuesday January 16. Arrangements are in care of Galante Funeral Home, 2800 Morris Avenue, Union.
