Beloved father Dominick LaMorgese died on March 7 th at age 91.
Funeral is from the Galante Funeral Home, 2800 Morris Ave. Union on Friday March 20th at 8:30 AM. Funeral Mass is at St. James Church in Springfield at 10 AM. Entombment will follow at Hollywood Memorial Park. Visitation is on Wednesday March 18th from 7-9 and on Thursday March 19th from 2-4 & 7-9 PM.
Born on September 16, 1923 in Newark to Nicola and Lucia (nee Petrocelli) LaMorgese, he was the youngest of 7 children. The LaMorgese brothers were known in the construction industry where Dominick founded Dura-Bilt Paving Co. He moved 60 years ago to Springfield where he retired. He is remembered for his commitment to service to his country, his church, his family and his community. He held a variety of offices with several Italian cultural organizations (Unico, D’Amici), and belonged to the Knights of Columbus Council #0666, Disabled American Veterans, Springfield Lions Club and Elks. He received the prestigious Melvin Jones Award for humanitarian service in 2003 from Lions Club International Foundation.
Mr. LaMorgese was the husband of Florence (nee Neri) LaMorgese and Barbara Osborne; father of Lucille DelVecchio, Michele Higgins, Diane Powers, Rene Arnold, Yvonne LaMorgese; brother to James, Michael, Angelo, Joseph, Angelina Marzulla and Anna Collura; grandfather to 12 children; and great-grandfather to 17 children.
