Dorothy H. Deo
Dorothy Hilda Deo (nee Herfurth) 94 of Princeton passed away on Sunday, January 17, 2021.
She was born in Irvington, NJ on March 28, 1926 and moved to Union, NJ shortly after her marriage. She lived in Union for more than 50 years before moving to Monroe Twp. NJ and then to Princeton, NJ.
Dorothy was predeceased by her loving parents Hilda Hefner and Charles Herfurth, her beloved husband of almost 44 years Joseph Deo and her wonderful son Gregory. She is survived by her loving sons Terry and his wife Cynthia and Jeffrey and his wife Anna. She is also survived by her precious grandchildren Kimberly, Jessica and Kelly along with many nieces and nephews.
Dorothy worked most of her career as an executive secretary in New York City until the age of 71 before retiring. She and her husband traveled to many places in the U.S. including Hawaii and also to Canada and Newfoundland. After Joe’s passing in 1993 Dorothy made several trips to Europe with her eldest grandchild, Kimberly, visiting nine different countries.
Dorothy was a very active parishioner at Saint Michael’s Church in Union for many years. She was a very caring and selfless person, always looking for ways to help others. She was a Eucharistic Minister and CCD instructor even into her 80’s and was also the treasurer and then Regent of the Catholic Daughters Chapter at Saint Michael’s Church.
Dorothy’s love for her family was obvious in everything she did. She enjoyed life to the fullest with frequent family dinner parties, camping, theater, cruises and shopping and she loved the slots in Atlantic City. She was an excellent dancer, especially the jitterbug and was the “life of the party” wherever she went. Her beautiful smile and joyful personality will be sorely missed by everyone who had the pleasure to know her.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Michael's Church, 1212 Kelly St. Union on Monday at 10:15 AM. A live Zoom stream will be available to watch for the Mass. The information to watch is Meeting ID: 997 533 3817 and Password: 2800 Entombment will be held privately. Arrangements are in the care of the Galante Funeral Home in Union.
