Edward J. Chrystal 72 of Springfield died on Monday October 28th, 2013 at Overlook Medical Center in  Summit.

The visitation will take place on Sunday November 3rd, from 2- 6 pm at the Galante Funeral Home, 2800 Morris Ave. Union. The interment will be private.

Born in Irvington he lived in Newark, and Union, before moving to Springfield 38 years ago. He was a Deputy Fire Chief for the City of Newark for 37 years before retiring 14 years ago.  He was a member of the BPO Elks Lodge # 1583 in Union, and the Watchung Ski Club. He was also a veteran of the US Marine Corps.

Edward was married to his wife Joyce (nee Sabatos) for 50 years, and is the father of Coleen, Edward Jr, and his wife Georgette, Matthew and his wife Sarah Chrystal, and Justine Billotto and her husband Roger. He is also the brother of John and Paul Chrystal, as well as the grandfather of 7 grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers the family prefers that you make memorials to your favorite charity in his memory.
