Edwin Rodriguez

Edwin Rodriguez, 44 of Summit passed away on November 26, 2016.

A Funeral Service will be held in the Galante Funeral Home, 2800 Morris Ave. Union on Friday at 10 AM Entombment will follow at Holy Cross Chapel Mausoleum. Visitation is on Thursday from 2-8 PM.

Born in Newark, Edwin lived in Union before moving to Summit 13 years ago. He worked as a correction officer at Northern State Prison, Rahway State Prison, Southern State Correctional Facility, Mountainview Youth Correctional Facility, and most recently at the Edna Mahan Correctional Facility for Women; working his way up and attaining the rank of Major in the NJ Department of Corrections. Currently, Edwin was a lieutenant in Special Operations Group, which is a hostage negotiation team. He also served as an administrative officer at the NJ Department of Corrections central office in Trenton.

Edwin was very loved and respected in both his personal and professional life, and absolutely admired by his peers. An avid golfer and fan of the New York Giants, he was also a volunteer basketball coach at Summit Middle School.

Edwin was the son of the late Manuel and Juanita Rodriguez; and is survived by his beloved wife Lucy (nee Colon); loving children Dante and Arianna Rodriguez; and dear brother of Manuel, Miriam and Nereida Rodriguez, and the late Gladys.
