Elpidio “Pete” Irizarry, 78 of Elizabeth, formerly of Newark, passed away on June 25, 2013.

Funeral is from the Galante Funeral Home, 17 Pacific St. Newark on Saturday at 8:30 AM. Funeral mass is at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church at 9:30 AM. Entombment is at Holy Cross Cemetery. Visitation is on Friday from 2-4 & 7-9 PM.

Born in Puerto Rico, Elpidio lived in the Ironbound section of Newark for 20 years before moving to Elizabeth 25 years ago. He worked as a longshoreman for Maher Terminal in Newark for 23 years before retiring 10 years ago. He loved being a longshoreman, and spending time with his family when he wasn’t working. He was also a member of ILA local 1235.

Elpidio was the beloved husband for 50 years of Loli (nee Abascal). Loving father of Maria Irizarry; Roberto Irizarry and his wife Cynthia. He is survived by his grandchildren Sean and Keighly. Also survived by 8 sisters and 2 brothers, and is predeceased by one sister.
