Fernando Amesti, Jr., 69, passed away on Tuesday, July 27, 2021.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation for Fernando at the Galante Funeral Home, 2800 Morris Ave. Union on Sunday from 2-5 PM. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph's Church in Maplewood on Monday at 10 AM. Entombment will follow at Hollywood Memorial Park.
He was predeceased by his father, Fernando Amesti, Sr. He is survived by his beloved mother Margarita (nee Dominguez), his sister Margarita Losada and brother-in-law, Castor. He leaves behind a nephew, Castor, and his wife, Robbye, a niece, Dolores, and her husband, Anthony. As well as two grandnieces, a grandnephew, cousins, friends and business associates who will miss him dearly.
A lifelong resident of the Ironbound neighborhood in Newark, Fernando graduated from Arts High School. He then attended Rutgers University's Newark Campus. From his earliest years, Fernando was an entrepreneur and he was always seeking creative ways of earning income. Despite his many physical hardships, it never hindered his tenacity, perseverance, courage and positive attitude from being successful and "making it happen." After other business ventures, Fernando ultimately established Barrier Free Construction and Maintenance Corporation, a commercial general contracting business, which he grew from nothing to a mid-market operation that continues to thrive today.
Fernando had an enormous heart, helping countless people over the years. He was kind-hearted, generous and always sought a way to help others. He loved going out to eat with friends and business associates, and enjoyed going to the track to watch his horses participate in harness racing events.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Fernando's memory can be made out to Kessler Foundation, 120 Eagle Rock Avenue, East Hanover, NJ 07936 or online at Kesslerfoundation.org.
