Frank T. La Motta, 89, of Springfield died on Monday May 5, 2014 at Overlook Medical Center in Summit.

The funeral will be from the Galante Funeral Home 2800 Morris Avenue in Union on Saturday at 8:30 am. The funeral mass will be in St. James Church in Springfield at 10 am. Cremation is private. Burial will take place in Gate of Heaven Cemetery in East Hanover at a later date.  Visitation will be on Friday from 4-8 pm.

Born in Brooklyn, NY he grew up in East Orange, and settled in Springfield where he raised his family and lived for 60 years before moving to New Providence for the last 2 years.  He was a diamond setter for Tessler and Weiss in Union, then Shiman Manufacturing, and then  Krementz Manufacturing both in Newark for a total of 50 years, until he retired 20 years ago. He was a veteran of the US Navy serving during WWII and was a plank owner for the USS Wasp.  He was also a member of the Springfield Chapter of UNICO National, and the VFW Post in Springfield.

Frank is survived by his beloved wife Marguerite ("Maggie" nee Beury) for 62 years and children Frank and his wife Donna, Janice La Motta, Nancy Daniels, and John. He is predeceased by his brothers Dominick, William, Charlie, and John La Motta,and sister Marie Gargano.He was the grandfather of Joseph, TJ, Kaitlin, Phoebe, and Shannon.
