Helene M. Castellani

Helene Castellani 76 of Springfield passed away on Sunday September 9, 2012.


The Funeral is from the Galante Funeral Home 2800 Morris Ave., Union on Thursday at 9 AM. The Funeral Mass will be held at St. James Church, Springfield at 10:30 AM. Entombment is following at St. Theresa Cemetery in Summit. Visitation is on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM.


Born in Wilkes-Barre, Pa. to Raymond and Anna Andes she lost both parents at an early age. Helene was raised by William Crandall Smith and Ruth Smith and moved to New Jersey at the age of 12. She graduated from West Side High School in Newark in 1955. Helene resided in Springfield since 1967 and was a longtime employee at Governor Livingston High School in Berkeley Heights where she managed the school cafeteria.





Surviving are her husband of 48 years Sabatino “Dino” Castellani. Sons Anthony (Lisa) and Vincent (Sandy). Grandmother of Dena, Toni, Mary, Grace and Dino. She is the sister of Bernadette Arnout and Hugh Andes, sister-in-law of Anne Lebid Andes and Loretta Andes. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Helene was pre-deceased by brothers Francis Andes and Joseph Andes and sisters Ann Marie Sterba and Margaret Jane Lalas.


In lieu of flowers donations to the American Cancer Society in her memory would be appreciated.
