James V. Parrillo

James V. Parrillo, 90 passed away on March 16, 2025.

An alumnus of Eastside High School In Newark. James carried a deep-seated pride for his beloved city roots and transformed that pride into action. His a role epitomized his passion for bringing about positive change. Throughout his career of many years with the city he made indelible contributions. His influence was felt across the city working with the Newark Housing Authority, special aid to Mayor Gibson, member of the Newark Board of Education. And later as a commissioner for the Taxi and Limousine Commission, as a commissioner of the Newark Parking Authority.

For over 40 years, James served as the civic standard bearer for the James Parrillo Civic Association, where his leadership fostered community engagement and connection among residents. His life was marked not just by official titles, but by a genuine love for Newark—the people, the culture, and the promising aspirations he envisioned for every corner of his beloved city.

In his personal life, James shared a bond with highly esteemed companion, the late Carmella D'Alessio, who stood beside him through his many endeavors and pursuits.

Visitation will take place at Galante Funeral Home, in Union, on Friday March 21, 2025, from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM, followed by a Mass at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Newark at 12:00 PM. The community is invited to come together to celebrate the life of a man who devoted himself to the prosperity, well-being, and pride of Newark. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.
