James D. Petio, 91 of Union passed away at home on April 29, 2016.
Funeral is from the Galante Funeral Home, 2800 Morris Ave. Union on Thursday at 9 AM. Interment will follow at Most Precious Blood Cemetery in Hazleton, PA. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 4-8 PM, with a funeral service held at 7:30 PM.
Jim was a loving, caring and generous man who enjoyed being with his family and always seemed to be in a good mood. He was proud of his service as a medic during WWII and saw action in many places in Europe including at the Battle of the Bulge in France and Belgium.
He worked for many years at General Motors and until recently enjoyed seeing former co-workers at their monthly union meetings and bus trips to Atlantic City.
Jim could always be found in the kitchen cooking wonderful Italian meals and he was very proud of his Italian heritage. In recent years he told us that his birth certificate listed his first name as Vincent, but there wasn't an explanation as to how he came to be known as Jim. His favorite past time was fishing on the day boats out of Atlantic Highlands at the Jersey Shore. Over the years his brother-in-law Ernie, nephew, nephew-in-law and great-nieces enjoyed those days with him.
Jim was predeceased by his brothers Louis and John and sisters Anna, Marie, Mary and Connie; and sister-in-law Connie. He is survived by his nieces Donna (Dan), Elaine (Ed), Joanne (Anthony), and nephew Charlie (Lori) and his great-nieces Jill, Leanne, Meghan, Holly and Amy; and great-nephew Hanalie.
