Jesus Aurelio Cagide

It is with great sadness that the family of Jesus Cagide announces his passing,

on Sunday, March 1, 2020, at the age of 93 years.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Aida Elena Cagide,

brothers Armando, Victoriano, Manuel, eldest son Jesus Jr. and parents Constantino and Dolores Cagide.

Jesus will be lovingly remembered by his children, Jorge and Javier and daughter in-laws, Clara Stella, Patricia and Lucinda. Jesus will always live fondly in the hearts of his grandchildren, Jeffrey, Jennifer, Corinne, Ryan, Helen

and their spouses, Ann-Marie and Seth. He was beloved by his four great-grandchildren, Evan, Ethan, Miles and Elena.

Jesus’ parents were born in Spain and subsequently moved to Cuba, where he was born in 1926.

In his teenage and adult years, he, his father and brother Armando built a successful business and raised a family.

As the Castro era materialized, along with its volatile government system,

they realized the consequences of what it would mean for their family.

Thus, in 1965, they decided on a bold and courageous decision

to transplant to the United States.

An arduous ninety-mile crossing to Florida was made,

followed shortly thereafter by a move to New Jersey, where they finally settled.

Here, Jesus, and his brother Armando found the tenacity and resolve to forge a new beginning,

working long and hard hours as longshoreman at Port Newark.

They never lost hope or integrity, and ultimately created an amazing life for their children

…and in turn, their children.

It was a great sacrifice and gift that will always be remembered.

Crypt Side Services for immediate family only will be held at Hollywood Cemetery in Union, NJ

on Wednesday, March 4, 2020.
