Florham Park, NJ

Joan Casale (nee Capobianco), born February 11, 1932, passed away peacefully in Florham Park, NJ on Monday, March 10, 2025, at the age of 93.

Joan was born in Newark and raised her family in Union before moving to The Hideout in Lake Ariel in PA, referred to as “The Big House” by her grandchildren. Joan lived a simple, wholesome, and fulfilling life with her beloved husband Richard, who precedes her in death. They were married for 63 years. Joan moved back to Union after her husband’s passing where she lived for 5 years, before moving to Florham Park.

Joan lived for family weekends at “The Big House” full of card games, fishing and inappropriate name calling that directly translated to nothing but love. She was also very active in her community She is not only remembered for her perseverance and constant ability to make her family laugh, but her infamous ‘sgetties and cheese’ and the best pot roast ever tasted.

Joan had a passion for volunteering. She was regularly active in The Hideout Community where she participated in Christmas parties for the kids, collected items and sent care packages to soldiers overseas, and worked with the quilters group who provided hand crocheted blankets to the local hospital. Her volunteering did not stop there. After moving back to Union at the age of 85, she volunteered regularly in her 55+ community – she especially loved calling the Bingo games. If she wasn’t calling them, she was winning them.

Joan was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Devlin and her husband John, her son Richard Casale and his wife Louise, and her daughter Beth Bluj and her husband Tom. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Michael, Joseph, Nicholas, Samantha, Janine and Thomas and her three great grandchildren, Jonathan, Christopher and Isabella. She was predeceased by her loving grandson, Richard Casale, who was no doubt waiting for her with open arms.

A private family gathering will be held to celebrate Joan’s life.
