Jose Ari Ribeiro
Jose Ari Ribeiro, 54, was born in Rio de Janeiro and moved to the United States in the 1980s. For a time, he attended the University of Paris/ Sorbonne on a full scholarship, where he studied French. He later earned a BA from Rutgers University. He was a New Jersey Court certified interpreter in the Portuguese language. He also taught ESL in the adult school program for the South Orange/Maplewood School District. Jose was a certified paralegal. His most recent employment was as a certified bridge inspector.
He traveled extensively, partly while working on his first book, In the Garden of Aranjuez, which he completed earlier this year, and partly in search of a good restaurant or hotel he had read about in a newspaper or magazine. He had an amazing love for life, music, and his cats, Elario, Laura, Peter, Francisco, William, Cynthia, and Claire.
Jose is survived by three sisters: Maria Zelia Guimaraes, Maria de Fatima Cascardo, and Miriam Lindolfo. Also, his great-aunts, Maria da Cruz, Maria das Dores, and Maria de Lourdes. He leaves behind many nieces and nephews, as well as devoted friends, Roberto Cabral, Rosemary Porpora, and Robert Young.
In his memory, donations may be made to the animal shelter of your choice.
