A kind and gentle soul, Joseph “Joe” Pinto of Manahawkin, NJ passed away peacefully on Friday, November 15th surrounded by his loved ones. Joe was born on March 13, 1965 in East Orange, the fifth of Mildred and Augustino “Gus” Pinto’s six children. Physical limitations be damned, he was a spitfire and kept up with his four brothers and one sister and loved being mischievous. He made sure everyone knew he did not consider himself to be handicapped and was always willing to help people out. Joe wore his Essex County Vo-Tech class ring with pride and loved his Oreos and Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups and especially his St. Joseph’s Day zeppoles.
He enjoyed spending time cheering on the New York Mets, having phone calls with his sister, brothers, and his favorite phone buddy his Aunt Cookie, and of course, riding his bike around town. He was a local icon who beamed when somebody recognized him. And he shined on a dance floor, where you could always find him during a wedding or family party.
He will be laid to rest in his Mets jacket. Joseph is pre-deceased by his parents Augustino “Gus” and Mildred Pinto and is survived by his brothers Nicholas and his wife, Jacqueline, Richard and his wife, Susan, Steven and his wife, Donna, brother Christopher, his sister Rosemary and her husband Anthony Nardo, uncle of Richard Jr. and Christina Pinto, Cory Pinto and Richard Cimino, Christopher Pinto, Cara Flynn, Giovanni Pinto, Steven and Samantha Bachman, Melissa and Zachary Aronson, and great uncle to Julie, Hayley, Sydney, Miles, and Nathan.
In lieu of flowers or donations please consider a prayer to St. Joseph today and a zeppole in Joe’s memory on St. Joseph Feast Day (March 19). Please remember Joe with the love he spread.
In lieu of flowers or donations we are asking everyone on March 19th the feast of St. Joseph to have a St.Joseph cake or a serving of rice pudding in his memory.
