Joseph Smaldone, 91, of Newark, passed away on Friday, December 10, 2021, at Rahway Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.

Friends and relatives are invited to attend a visitation for Joseph at the Galante Funeral Home, 2800 Morris Avenue, Union on Monday from 4-8 PM. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Newark on Tuesday at 10 AM. Entombment to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in North Arlington.

Born and raised in Newark (Ironbound), Joseph worked as a truck driver for many years.

Beloved husband of the late Mildred "Millie" (nee Vertorano). Father of Dona DeBenedictis and her husband Anthony, Diana Muniz, and Irene Pallitto and her husband Anthony. Grandfather of Anthony Joseph, Natalie, Anthony Jr., Vanessa, Gina, and Joseph. Great grandfather of Leia, Shea, Violet, Camilla, and Damien.

Predeceased by his parents Leopold and Rose (nee DiNicolas) Smaldone and his many siblings.

Joseph was a loving father who always put his family first! He is now with the love of his life "Millie".
