Juanita C. Gomez
Juanita C. Gomez 82, born in the Dominican Republic, migrated to Manhattan in the 60’s and then moved to Elizabeth, NJ and then Union, passed away at home surrounded by her family, after a 3 year long battle with Pancreatic Cancer.
She was a loving and caring sister, cousin, mother, aunt, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend. Her motto was first God, then family, and last but not least the Dominican Republic. Being the first of her family to migrate from Santo Domingo to NYC, she paved the way for her future generations' success. She was a hard worker who always provided for her family. She was a natural caregiver, always had everyone in mind, and was someone you could depend on. Juanita loved representing her culture. One way she did this was by singing along to her favorite musician, Frank Reyes. She loved spending time with her family and spoiling her grandchildren and great grandchildren. As a passtime she loved watching movies about dogs, gardening, and cooking... God knows we will miss her cooking! Her preferred cuisine was creole Dominican food. She loved a strong cup of coffee and playing board games with family and friends... and let’s be honest, who could beat her at dominoes? Her color of choice was burgundy and she made that clear with her trademark burgundy lipstick and nail polish. We will remember her for her famous anchoitas, her tinte de caoba, her infamous teas, her unconditional love, her warm eyes, her calm advice, and for everything she ever did for all of us. Thank you MAMIBUELA you were the matriarch this family needed. WE LOVE YOU.
