Larry Tobia
Larry Tobia, 94, of Union, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, February 25, 2015 surrounded by his loving family.
The funeral will be from the Galante Funeral Home 2800 Morris Ave. Union, on Saturday at 9am. The funeral mass will be at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Newark at 10:30am. Entombment will follow at Hollywood Memorial Park in Union.Visitation will be on Friday from 4-8 pm.
Born in North Newark, he lived in the Ironbound section of Newark, before moving to Union 54 years ago. He attended Barringer High School where he played football and was a member of the school band. Larry was a musician and founder of the Larry Tobia Orchestra. He was a hardware store owner in the Ironbound section of Newark for over 50 years. Residing in Union with his wife, Mary, of 70 years, he was a member of the Holy Name Society at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Newark and the Musicians Guild #16. Larry was also a member of the Hillside Italian American Club and the Knights of Columbus Council #3197 in Hillside .
Beloved husband of Mary Tobia (nee Biondi) for 70 years; loving father of Louis and his wife Patricia, Jerry and his wife Barbara, and Augie and his wife Mindy; cherished grandfather of Jennifer, Maria, Louis Jr., Gerald Jr., Michael, Angela, Lisa and Steven; and loving great grandfather of 14 great grandchildren.
Larry was truly a role model to all who knew and loved him. His work ethic, strong family values and zest for life continued to amaze those who knew him. Even at 94, Larry still maintained his big personality by joking and singing one of his favorite tunes and always showing endless love for his family.
