Lemercier Nordeus Pierre, age 89, of Union, New Jersey, passed away on Tuesday, November 26, 2024. 

Mr. Pierre was born to Decius Pierre and Lucienne Jerome Pierre in Bassin, Gonaïves, Haiti. He was one of 15 children.

He graduated from Lycée Gefrard in Gonaïves and completed his secondary education at Simon Bolivar School in Port-au-Prince in 1958. Following his studies, he worked as the section chief in the laboratory division at Société de Développement Économique et Naturel (SEDREN), a Canadian copper mining company in Haiti, from 1960 until its closure in 1972. As part of the executive team, he helped oversee the mining and exporting of over $84 million USD worth of copper annually. 

When SEDREN closed in 1972, Mr. Pierre emigrated to the United States, and his family joined him a year later. He lived primarily in Elizabeth and Union, New Jersey, where he worked at Apex Records in Rahway before pursuing his dream of entrepreneurship. In 1981, he purchased his first taxi medallion and successfully ran his own fleet until retiring in 2011.

Mr. Pierre was a dedicated family man. He is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Marie Odette Pierre, and deeply cherished his children and their spouses: Dorothy (Garry) Beauliere, Eric N. (Daniella) Pierre, Junon (Harry) Desrouleaux, and Elizabeth Pierre. He was also the proud grandfather of Garrick Beauliere, Nia (Stewart) Turner, Miles Desrouleaux, Imani Beauliere, Dimitri Desrouleaux, Eric Sage Pierre, Jonathan Pierre, Kevin Pierre, and numerous nieces and nephews who brought immense joy to his life.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Pierre was predeceased by his son Jackson Pierre and all 14 of his siblings.

A respected member of the Haitian community, Mr. Pierre was active in La Béthanie Lodge #10. Over the years, he held several prestigious positions, including:

He was highly regarded by his peers and dedicated to mentoring younger members of the lodge.

Mr. Pierre’s legacy will be remembered through the lives he touched and the stories he shared.

Family and friends are invited to the viewing on Friday, December 6, 2024, from 8:00 AM to 10:30 AM (Masonic Service will be held from 8 - 8:30 AM) at the Galante Funeral Home, 2800 Morris Ave. Union, NJ. 

A Funeral Mass in celebration of Mr. Pierre's life will be held at Holy Spirit Roman Catholic Church at 11 AM, with the entombment at Hollywood Cemetery in Union immediately following.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, which is dedicated to supporting those affected by Alzheimer’s disease, at www.alz.org.
