Livertha Stimphond-Brizeus, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, and friend, passed away on April 6, 2025, on her 72nd birthday.
Born on April 6, 1953, in Gran-Berard, L'artibonite, Haiti, Livertha later migrated to the United States in October 1981, where she began her professional journey.
Livertha's professional life began in 1983 working as a factory worker. She worked there until 1999, when she then shifted her career to nursing, becoming a dedicated Nursing Aid, CNA, and Home Health Aid, a role she cherished until her retirement in 2013. Her unwavering commitment to caring for others was a testament to her deep compassion and kindness. Along the way, she met many acquaintances who would become like family over the years.
1983 marked the beginning of her love life, as she met her husband Joseph Wixler Brizeus. Their paths intertwined, culminating in their marriage in 1995, a union built upon love, respect, and mutual support. Out of that union, two children were born - Thevia in 1985 and Wadner in 1988. They went on to raise their family in Newark, NJ before settling in Irvington, NJ. In her, her children found unwavering support, a great sense of resilience and determination and unconditional love
Livertha's personality was vibrant and full of life. She had an innate gift for conversation. She cherished being able to talk on the phone with others and visiting family and friends often. Her deep religious faith guided her every step and for over 35 years, she was an active member of Irvington Haitian Catholic community with her home Parish, St. Leo's Church. Every Tuesday, she could be found at the Charismatic Prayer Group, immersing herself in fellowship and spirituality, and she was also a dedicated member of the choir for many years. There too, she would meet fellow parishioners who have become more than family over the years.
Livertha is survived by her cherished husband, Wixler; her daughter Thevia Brizeus-Franco and son-in-law, Bruce Franco; her son, Wadner Brizeus (Libna Destin); her brothers Antoine Stimphont and Anouse Estefont; her sister Victoire Charles; and her beloved granddaughters, Olivia Brielle and Avielle Breelyn. She is also survived by four sister-in-laws and countless loving nieces and nephews who she will forever hold close to her heart.
Livertha is predeceased by her mother, Lucilia Brizeus, her father, Fabius Stimphond, and 26 brothers and sisters, of whom she was the youngest.
A visitation to celebrate and honor Livertha’s life will be held on Thursday, April 24, from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Galante Funeral Home, 2800 Morris Avenue in Union, NJ. Family and friends are invited to gather and share stories, memories, and the love that Livertha so freely gave. A mass will be held on Friday, April 25 at 10am at St. Leo's Church, 103 Myrtle Ave, Irvington, NJ. Her burial will follow at Hollywood Memorial Park, 1500 Stuyvesant Ave, Union, NJ.
As we say farewell to this remarkable woman, let us remember her spirit, her devotion to her faith, family, and friends, and the vibrant warmth she brought into our lives. Livertha Stimphond-Brizeus will be profoundly missed but never forgotten.
