Louis A. Garruto of Florham Park died on December 15, 2014 at Morristown Memorial Hospital.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend the funeral from the Galante Funeral Home, 2800 Morris Ave. Union on Saturday at 9 AM. The funeral mass will be at St. Lucy's Church Newark at 11 AM. Entombment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Visitation is on Thursday & Friday from 3-8 pm.

Born in Newark, Lou lived in Florham Park for 33 years.

Lou Garruto was a Pharmaceutical Executive. A graduate of St. John's College of Pharmacy, he was the founder and CEO of American Home Medical Services of Lincoln Park, Life Medical Home Services of Linden and American Preferred Prescription Service. He was also on the Board of Directors of Pharma-Tek of Huntington, Long Island and Metro Med of Austin, Texas.

Lou was a coordinator of the St. Gerard Development Corporation of St. Lucy's Church in Newark, which was responsible for building the beautiful St. Gerard Plaza. He also was a coordinator of the annual Feast of St. Gerard.

Lou was responsible for raising $1 million worth of pharmaceuticals for the Italian Earthquake Relief Fund through the Italian Tribune News. He received the Ecclesiastical Honor at the Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart in 1998; and was honored by Project Heartbeat.

Mr. Garruto received the Meritorious Achievement Award for Outstanding American of Italian Descent from the Italian Tribune News, an award from the St. Gerard Men's Society and Ladies Guild in recognition of his tireless efforts and dedicated services, as well as the Humanitarian Award from the Federation of Italian American Society of NJ.

He was also a member of the New Jersey Pharmaceutical Society, the Board of Governors of the Pharmacy Guild of NJ, and the Columbian Foundation.

Lou was the beloved and devoted husband of Olimpia (Nee Moschetta); devoted father of Emil Garruto, Olimpia Garruto Grillo and her husband Antonio, Gina Di Stasio, and Joann Rozell and her husband Albert; and dear brother of Emil and his wife Irene.

He was the beloved grandfather of Lenny Di Stasio, Gianna Di Stasio, Joseph, Alexa, Michael & Nicholas Rozell; and beloved brother-in-law of Phil and Carol Moschetta.

He will be deeply missed by his family and friends and the countless others who he touched over the course of his life.

Lou developed and treasured relationships with a group of friends whom he considered family.
