Manuel R. Da Silva, 65 of Union passed away on March 7, 2019.

Funeral is from the Galante Funeral Home, 2800 Morris Ave. Union on Monday at 9 AM. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Fatima Church in Elizabeth at 10:30 AM. Entombment will follow at Hollywood Memorial Park. Visitation is on Sunday from 2-6 PM at the funeral home.

Born in Portugal, Manuel arrived in the United States in 1977, settling in the Ironbound section of Newark, and lived there until moving to Union 15 years ago. He worked in construction for the ILA Local #472 for many years. Lovingly called "The Coach" by his family, Manuel was always the life of the party, and thoroughly enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Although stubborn at times, that veil was quickly dropped when he began to laugh; a laughter that quickly spread among his loved ones. An avid card player and Sportinguista, Manuel loved to travel the world with his wife, and dreamed of someday traveling into outer space.

Most important to Manuel were his grandchildren, which were his whole world.

Manuel was the beloved husband to Maria J. (Pinto) Da Silva; loving father of Carla Lopes and her husband Felipe; dear grandfather of Juliana and Megan, and the late Jason Lopes. He is also survived by his sister and brothers in Portugal.
