Margaret Mary Castiglione (nee Fogarty) age 96, of Toms River, New Jersey died at home on February 4, 2023, surrounded by her family.  Born in Harrison, New Jersey, she lived in Newark, before settling in Bloomfield where she raised her family.  For the last 30 years, she has resided in Toms River.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation for Margaret at the Galante Funeral Home, 2800 Morris Ave. Union on Tuesday February 7 from 2-4 & 7-9 PM. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Lucy's Church in Newark on Wednesday at 10 AM. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.

A devout Catholic, she devoted her time by using her artistic talents for drawing and creating programs for Saint Michael’s Church in Newark and The Archdiocese of Newark.  She was asked by the Bishop if she could guide mentally challenged children to receive their sacraments.  She did this by visiting homes in the First and North Wards in Newark and working with children.  Families were so pleased in her accomplishments in helping their children that they remained in contact with her for many years.

She also volunteered at Saint Joseph’s Home For The Blind in Jersey City.  She took courses in Braille and was able to convert letters and cards by communicating in Braille.  She also became so attached to these patients that she would invite them over to her home for dinner.  Her family also grew fond of them and enjoyed their visit.

In her earlier years, Margaret worked for The Newark Evening Newspaper then Bloomfield College for the Administration Department.

A sports enthusiast, she was an avid Yankee fan and was able to attend two Yankee World Series games.  She also loved and played basketball and was on the champion CYO team for Saint Michael’s School in Newark.  She was an amazing Italian cook, who never missed a traditional Sunday dinner with pasta, homemade gravy and dad's favorite neck bones.

Mom dedicated her life to her family and was a very loving person who would open her home to everyone.

Beloved wife of the late Charles Castiglione, Jr. she is survived by her loving children Charles, III and his wife Rosanne, Edward, Mary, John and his wife Michelle, Margaret Chiarappa and her husband Robert and devoted grandchildren Robert, Michael, Danielle, Victoria, John, Joseph, Nicholas and James and  many nieces and nephews and her brother-in-law, Anthony Castiglione. She is also the sister of the late Edmund and Joseph Fogarty.

Donations can be made to Saint Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
