Margaret DeGeorge, 79, of Basking Ridge, passed away on Tuesday, February 1, 2022, at Overlook Hospital.
Born in Newark, New Jersey, she was raised in Hillside and resided in Sayreville and Blairstown before settling in Basking Ridge for the past 35 years.
Margie was an energetic soul with a knack for storytelling. She effortlessly engaged all with her lively tales of family and life’s adventures, at times with slight embellishment.
Margie was extraordinarily family-oriented and had a big heart, and would help anyone in need.
Margie’s favorite role in life was being a caring and warm wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a dog lover, and all dogs seemed to love her.
Doting on her grandchildren and granddogs brought her immense joy. She enjoyed cooking, decorating for the holidays, swimming, the lottery, and casinos. Later in life, she became a passionate baseball fan rooting for the New York Yankees.
To cherish her memory, she leaves behind her beloved husband and friend of 58 incredible years, Joseph DeGeorge; daughter Donna DeGeorge of Basking Ridge, NJ; son Michael DeGeorge of Brick, NJ; daughter Lisa Fontanella and her husband Steve of Bernardsville, NJ; and five grandchildren Jessica, Michael, Brianna, Mario, and Annabelle. In addition, she is survived by her brother Alex Callandrillo and many relatives and friends.
She was predeceased by her mother Lucy (Riscinti), father Dominick Callandrillo, and stepmother Elizabeth (Fusco).
She will be greatly missed by all who were blessed to have known her.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation for Margie at the Galante Funeral Home, 2800 Morris Ave. Union on Friday, February 4 from 4–8 PM.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, February 5 at St. James the Apostle Church in Springfield at 10 AM. Those attending mass may meet at the funeral home at 9 AM. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery Mausoleum, Mount Airy Road, Basking Ridge.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
