Marguerite Helene La Motta

Marguerite Helene La Motta, (nee Beury) 87, of Springfield, N.J., died peacefully on Saturday, January 31, 2015, surrounded by her family.

Born in East Orange, N.J. she grew up in a lively and loving household of cousins, aunts, uncles and her maternal grandmother. She married her husband Frank in 1951 and they settled in Springfield, N.J. where they raised their family in their home of 60 years. She lived the past two years in her daughter’s home in New Providence before transitioning to hospice care.

She worked for the garden center, Wayside Gardens in Springfield and Summit, N.J. for 20 years where her artistic flair was evidenced in all that she did especially her hallmark “painted pumpkins” every autumn. She was above all else, a beloved and devoted wife, mother and “nonny” – roles she embraced with exquisite joy. She will be missed for her grace, kindness and pure goodness, her easy laugh, her beautiful smile, and her joy-filled heart.

Marguerite was the loving and dedicated wife of Frank T. La Motta for 62 years, who predeceased her in May of 2014. She is survived by her children, Frank La Motta and his wife Donna, Janice La Motta, Nancy Daniels and John La Motta, her five grandchildren Joseph, TJ, Kaitlin, Phoebe and Shannon and her loving sister Helene Beury Tyndall.

The family is grateful to the kind and attentive care of the staff of Father Hudson House where she spent the last two months of her life.

The funeral will be from the Galante Funeral Home, 2800 Morris Ave., Union, N.J. on Thursday at 8:30 am The Funeral Mass will be in St. James Church, Springfield at 10 AM. Internment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery; East Hanover, N.J. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 4-8 PM.
