Maria Carmen Fernandez, 60, of Warwick St, Newark, NJ, passed away on Thursday, April 25, 2019 in Somerville, NJ.

The funeral will be held from the Galante Funeral Home, 2800 Morris Ave., Union, N.J., on Tuesday April 30th at 8  a.m.  Funeral Mass will be held at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Newark at 9:30 a.m.  Entombment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in North Arlington, N.J.  Visitation will be on Monday from 5 – 8 p.m.  For directions or to send condolences please visit galantefh.com.

Born in Orense, Spain, Carmen arrived in the US in 1966 and lived in the Ironbound section of Newark.

She volunteered for a number of years at St Michael’s Hospital and cared for her mother and father.  Carmen was a kind, loving person who loved and cared deeply for her family and friends, including her nephews Gilbert and David.

Carmen was the daughter of Celsa and Ernesto Fernandez; sister of Lucy Vazquez.  All of her family and friends will miss her dearly.
