Maria “Amparo” Vazquez

Maria “Amparo” Vazquez (nee Salgado) 88, of Newark passed peacefully on May 6, 2013 surrounded by her children and grandchildren.

Funeral is from the Galante Funeral Home, 17 Pacific St. Newark on Saturday at 8:30 AM.

Funeral Mass at St. James Church in Newark at 9:30 AM.

Interment at Fairview Cemetery in Westfield.

Visitation on Friday from 4-8 PM.

Maria was born and raised in Orense, Spain, immigrated to Newark in 1952 settling in the Ironbound section.

She worked as a Seamstress in the garment industry (ILGWU) and later for St. James Hospital as a Central Supply Technician before retiring in 1989. Member of the Ironbound Senior Citizens Center many years.

Wife of the late Manuel Vazquez

Survived by her beloved children Mary Nelson, Manny Vazquez and Rose Couto. Her son-in-laws or better known to her as her sons, Richard Nelson and Nelson Couto also her late daughter- in -law Nelly Garcia-Vazquez.

Loving grandmother of  Victor, Daniel and Dana.
