d. March 8, 2025

Union, NJ

Marie Odette Pierre, age 81, of Union, NJ went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 8th, 2025.

Marie Odette Pierre was born in Laraque, Haiti to the late Antoine Barthelus and Dorcelia Jean Charles. She is affectionately known by many as Odette, Gran, Grandma, Soeur Odette, and Tati Odette.

Odette completed her schooling at the Lise Lamothe School in Gonaïves, Haiti and Centre D’Études in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. While at the Lise Lamothe School, Odette met the love of her life, Lemercier Nordeus Pierre, whom she would later marry. Odette often described him as a Prince of a Man. They renewed their vows on their 25th wedding anniversary in 1988.

After Lemercier’s company closed in 1972, Odette emigrated to the United States. Odette and her family lived primarily in Elizabeth and Union, New Jersey. She worked faithfully at CeDe Candy for 31 years, not once ever missing a day of work. While working at CeDe Candy, Odette pursued further education and obtained her Certified Nursing Assistant(CNA) license. She then worked as a CNA at Plaza Nursing Home in Elizabeth, NJ until she fully retired in 2011.

A dedicated wife, loving mother and provider, Odette was predeceased by her beloved husband of 60 years, Lemercier N. Pierre, her son Jackson Pierre, her parents Antoine and Dorcelia Barthelus, her sister Jertha Barthelus and her brothers Joseph “Ton Re” Barthelus, Charles Barthelus, and Marc-Antoine Barthelus.

Odette is survived by her children and their spouses who all deeply cherished her: Dorothy (Garry) Beauliere, Eric N.(Daniella) Pierre, Junon (Harry) Desrouleaux, and Elizabeth Odette Pierre. She was also the proud grandmother of Garrick Beauliere, Nia (Stewart) Turner, Miles Desrouleaux, Imani Beauliere, Dimitri Jordan “DJ” Desrouleaux, Eric Sage Pierre, Jonathan Pierre, Kevin Pierre, and numerous nieces and nephews who brought immense joy to her life. She also leaves behind her sisters Jeannine Barthelus, Martha Barthelus, Eberthe Rebecca Barthelus, Claircine Miro, Elionise Miro and her brother Smith Barthelus.Odette cherished spending time with her beloved husband, her children and their spouses, and grandchildren. She especially loved cooking her grandchildren’s favorite Haitian food whenever they wanted. It was her special way of loving them.

A woman of deep faith, Odette loved God and was beloved by Him. You would find her on her knees praying (often waking up at midnight) for her family, friends, and the world. Odette especially found joy in always leaving her family and friends with a bible verse! People were always impressed by her scripture memorization. Her friends began expecting a verse after conversations. If she forgot, they made sure to get one before the conversation was over.Odette loved going to church and participating on-line to fellowship with her sisters and brothers in Christ. She was a beloved member at Temple of Unified Christians and Rachète par Grace. She was also an active member of two small groups: Group Vigilant and Ephphatha. She was frequently invited to preach at the Ephphatha meetings and always felt excited to prepare the message that God had placed on her heart. She was even given a special award for her many contributions to the ministry. Odette was well-respected and admired by those around her. She read the bible regularly and loved sharing the Lord’s message of love and grace with everyone she encountered. Above all, Odette was a devoted worshiper of God, often dancing before Him, particularly with her tambourine!

Odette’s deep faith, effervescence, generosity, and joyful presence will be greatly missed by her family, friends, and community. Her legacy lives on through the many lives she touched, the wisdom she shared, and the love she gave.
