Mario Garcia

Mario Garcia, 76 of Mountainside passed away on August 12, 2024.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation for Mario at the Galante Funeral Home, 2800 Morris Ave. Union on Friday August 16 from 2-8 PM. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. James Church in Springfield on Saturday at 10 AM. Entombment will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Westfield.

Born in Ourense, Spain, Mario immigrated to Newark in 1973, settling in the Ironbound Section. He moved with his family to Mountainside in 1990. Mario was the owner and operator of the Spanish Tavern Restaurant on McWhorter Street since 1981, and the Spanish Tavern on Route 22 in Mountainside since 1986, retiring five years ago.  A sharp man who always stayed on the cutting edge, Mario enjoyed seeking out new restaurants and fresh menu ideas to bring to his dear customers. Above all, Mario treasured time spent with family, especially entertaining.

The devoted son of the late Manuel and Lola Garcia, Mario was the beloved husband of Concepcion "Connie" Garcia; loving father of Maria Dolores Garcia and Melissa Sarracino and her husband Ralph; dear grandfather of Lyla Conchita Yurecko, Mia Raffaela Yurecko, Sebastian Yurecko, Luca Gerard Sarracino and Nico Cruz Sarracino. He was also the cherished brother of Manolo Garcia, Guillermo Garcia, Conchita Garcia, and the late Pepito Garcia, Jose Luis Garcia and Rosa Garcia. He is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews and cousins.
