Mary Carmela Civitano, 98 formerly of Union passed away in her home in Lavallette on March 24, 2023. Most knew her as Millie, born in Newark, NJ, she lived most of her life in Elizabeth and Union until recently moving to Lavallette NJ.
The daughter to the late Donato Martinelli and Elizabeth Gianturco, Mary was the loving wife to the late Nicholas who shared 42 years of marriage together; loving mother to her late children Maria, Joseph, Elizabeth & Donna; loving mother and best friend to her daughter Susan. Mary was the sister to her late siblings Vincent, Susan, Madeline & Joseph. She was also a loving mother in law, aunt and friend.

She was our Queen. She was the absolute definition of strength and grace. She was clever, sentimental and witty. She enjoyed search-a-word, baking, making jewelry, crafting, watching Days of our lives and shopping! Above all, she treasured time spent with her family. Although her life was filled with so much heartache she persevered and remained strong for all of us. As a family we celebrated every way we could at any time to keep her heart filled with love surrounding her with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
A wife, a mother, grandma and great grandma too. This is the legacy we have from you. You taught us love and how to fight, You gave us strength, you gave us might. A stronger person would be hard to find, and in your heart, you were always kind. You fought for us all in one way or another, not just as wife, not just as mother. For all of us you gave your best, now the time has come for you to rest. So go in peace, you've earned your sleep. Your love in our hearts, we'll eternally keep.
