Matteo Apicella 70, of Springfield, died peacefully at home on Weds. Nov. 30th, 2011, surrounded by his wife and 3 daughters. Visitation will be on Sunday December 4th, 2011 from 2-4 & 7-9 pm. At the Galante Funeral Home 2800 Morris Avenue Union, N.J. A mass of Christian burial will be offered on Monday December 5th, 2011 at 10:15 am at St. James the Apostle Catholic Church, Springfield. Born in San Bartolomeo, Italy, Mr. Apicella came to America at 20 years of age. He was a resident of Springfield for almost 50 years. Matteo was a painter by trade and worked up until last year. He loved and cherished his wife and his family. He was devoted to his garden. Matteo enjoyed cooking and listening to music.
He is survived by his most beloved wife of 47 years Angelina (nee Zotti); his 3 daughters Maria and her husband Chris Styczynski; Lorraina and her husband Jimmy Mancini; and Angela and her husband Andy Huber. He is also survived by his sister Giuseppina; of Springfield, NJ. Matteo leaves 7 cherished grandchildren who brought him tremendous joy, Matthew, Michael, Anthony, Gabriella, Madeline, Richie, and Angelina. He was predeceased by his son Anthony; his parents, Antonio and Maria Apicella; and his adored siblings, Giovanni, Michele, and Angelina. The Apicella family would like to thank their extended family and friends for their incredible support. In lieu of flowers the family prefers that you make memorials to a charity of your choice.
