Matthew J. Golej

Ma tthew J. Golej, 87, of Berkeley Heights on June 30, 2013.

The funeral arrangements are by the Galante Funeral Home 2800 Morris Ave, Union.

Born in Newark, he lived in Union for 60 years. He was an independent homebuilder and Carpenter for Local 620 in Madison NJ for 35 years, retiring 22 years ago.

Matthew was a member of Cushing-Horvath VFW Lodge #4  in Union and the Union Elks #1583 for many years.

He was very active in the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Union.

He served in the Army during WWII in the European Theater.

He was predeceased by his wife Lydia (nee Stecki) of 42 years.

Father of Barbara Figura, Carol Golej and Cynthia Szymanski.

Brother of Joseph Golej, Helen Bilicska and the late Mary Blume.

Grandfather of Michelle, Michael, Rachel, Sara, Julie and Katie.

A graveside service will be announced at a later date.
