Born in East Orange, he lived in West Orange, and South Orange. He was an insurance adjuster for Property Damage Appraisal Co. in Cedar Grove, N.J. for many years.

Michael was the son of Betty L. (nee Hyer) and the late Michael T. Carr. He was the father of Lindsay Quaglia and her husband Michael, and the brother of Daniel Carr and his wife Karen, Thomas Carr and his wife Kathleen, and Deborah Carr and her husband Thomas Carlson
