Miguel Lopez

Miguel Angel Raimundo Lopez 97, of Union, NJ, beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather and great grandfather passed away at his home surrounded by his loved ones on September 7, 2024.

Miguel was born in Habana, Cuba in 1927, to Candido Miguel Lopez and Amparo Margarita Alonso, along with twin sister, Margot, joined later by younger sister, Eva. He married the love of his life, Maria Machado, in 1961 and welcomed their first child, Margaret, in 1963. He moved his family to the United States in 1967, and soon welcomed their second child, Michael, where they lived in the Ironbound section of Newark, NJ, before moving to Union, NJ, in 1979. Miguel worked as a longshoreman in Port Newark/Elizabeth before retiring in 1992.

Miguel’s faith was very important to him, and he was an active member of the Evangelical Association Church in Elizabeth, NJ, where he served as an elder for many years, until his passing. Miguel was also an avid photographer and took many pictures of his family and special events.

Miguel is survived by his wife, Maria, children Margaret and Michael, his grandchildren Jonathan, Michael, and Elizabeth, and his great granddaughter, Anna.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation for Miguel at the Galante Funeral Home, 2800 Morris Ave. Union on Tuesday September 10 from 4:30 to 8 PM, with a funeral service being celebrated at 7 PM. Interment will take place on Wednesday September 11 at Hollywood Memorial Park in Union at 11 AM.
