Miralia Roy was born on June 17, 1935 in Cayes-Jacmel Haiti to Axene and Carmelite (nee Alphonse) Roy. Miralia grew up with her two siblings; they were very close as children. They maintained a close bond throughout their lives.
Miralia was educated at L'ecole Des Saint Therese in Jacmel. She later went on to receive a Baccalaureate from Lise De Jeune Fils in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. Miralia eventually went to Peru to pursue her nursing degree.
On December 29 th 1965, she married her childhood sweetheart Linne Auguste Fenton. Their union lasted 50 years and they had three children Philippe Harold, Muriel Josephine and Myrna Carmel. In 1983, they adopted their niece Suzette Fenton.
After successfully obtaining her Nursing Degree, she emigrated to the United States and began her professional career. She settled in Brooklyn, NY and brought her husband and infant son to the US in 1969. She worked at several hospitals in New York City, before being hired at Cabrini Medical Center in Manhattan, where she worked for over 30 years as a Registered Nurse before retiring in 2001. After leaving Brooklyn, the family made stops in Corona, Queens and Long Branch, NJ before finally moving to Irvington, NJ.
Miralia was a caring and attentive mother, who never hesitated to open her heart and home to others. Over the years, she mothered many members of her family as they emigrated from Haiti and made their way in the United States. Miralia took care of all of her loved ones and especially enjoyed spending time with her family and doted on children and grandchildren constantly. Her love of children inspired her to send financial contributions to Centre Bon Berger, which was a school in Cayes-Jacmel, Haiti, for a number of years. Her contributions helped a number of underprivileged children receive a quality education.
Miralia was also very active in her church, helping her many friends with whatever they needed. Having lived in Haiti, Peru, and the United States, Miralia was equally fluent in French, Spanish and English. Being multilingual she often enjoyed watching Spanish Language programming...especially telenovellas. Miralia was probably best known for her laugh. She had the kind of honest, unbridled laughter that made other people laugh in a contagious way. Her laugh was comforting. If you heard it you couldn't help but believe everything was going to be alright; no matter what you might be going through.
On April 3, 2016 Miralia was called home after an almost three year battle with cancer. Even though cancer eventually defeated her body it never defeated her spirit. She never once stopped smiling and laughing and caring for others and was active and vibrant until she fell ill a few weeks ago. She was surrounded by her family and friends at the time of her passing.
Miralia is survived by her husband Linne, her children Philippe, Muriel, Myrna, son in law James, and adopted daughter Suzette; grandchildren, Andrew Louis, Alyssa Louis, Austin Louis, Nancy Louis, Kareen Louis, and Ellen Louis; brother Elliott Roy; brother in law Louis Fenton; nephews and nieces Romulus Jules and his wife Yvrose Samedi , Reginald Roy, Axel Roy, Henri-Claude Roy, Christophe Roy, Vincent Roy, Guislan LeRoy, Axene Roy, Marie Emile Fenton, Hervey Fenton and his wife Judith Fenton, Odile Fenton, Louis Fenton Jr., Charles Fenton, Andre Fenton and his wife Luce Fenton; grandnieces and grandnephews, Christopher Fenton, Jessica Fenton, Sophia Etienne, Alex Fenton, Alain Fenton, Soraya Jules, and Leah Fenton.
