After a courageous battle with Multiple Myeloma, Nicholas Charles DiVitto, 65,  of  North Caldwell NJ passed away on Tuesday November 29 th 2016 at Saint Barnabas Hospital.  Funeral is on Friday December 2 nd 2016 , assembling at 9:00a.m. Galante Funeral Home, 54 Roseland Ave., Caldwell, NJ.,  followed by a mass service at 11:00a.m. at Notre Dame Church, 359 Central Ave, North Caldwell, NJ.

Nicholas DiVitto, born August 9, 1951 was raised in the Soho section of New York City and lived in Staten Island and Brooklyn before relocating to New Jersey fourteen years ago when he married his wife, Carol Cerrato, formerly of West Orange.  He was the proud owner of Nicco’s Deli in Caldwell, NJ.  Affectionately referred to as the New Jersey “Soup Nazi”, Nicco’s Deli was an Italian Deli worth visiting.  Nicco’s Deli was v oted 'Best Deli in Caldwell' by the November  2009 Suburban Essex Magazine Readers' Choice Awards and received rave reviews from Star Ledger’s, Peter J. Genovese. He previously owned both a successful pizzeria (Nicco’s Pizzeria) and deli (Midfield Deli) in Staten Island.

Nicholas was the beloved husband of Carol (Cerrato); loving son of  Nicholas and Mary DiVitto (Carlo) deceased, son-in- law of  Dominic and Mildred Cerrato (Foggio) deceased; devoted father of Michele DiVitto and her fiancé John Potenza,  his twin girls, Claudia  Andreula  and her husband, Jason; Nicole Sullivan and her husband, Christopher, and adoring grandfather of Tyler-Christopher and Lauryn -Nicole Sullivan; loving brother of Carol Denardo and her husband Andrew; Charlene Reyes (deceased); Ann Leone DiVitto former wife and life-long friend and sister -in-law Diana Sefchik and her husband Gary.

He was the owner of adorable and mischievous cats that made him laugh as follows:   Blue-Eyes, Tiny and Nicco who were born in his garage, his oldest cat Depot whom he found at the Little Falls ‘Home Depot’ parking lot as a one pound kitten and Demi and Nicky who have sadly passed but will be waiting for him at the gates of heaven along with his mother, father , sister and former brothers’ in law, Vincent (Yak) Caruso and Jimmy Kingsley and of course his mother-in-law Mildred Cerrato whom  he got a ‘kick out of’,  always had a smile for and got away with calling her Milly.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital website: http://www.stjude.org/give.html or Haal - Homeless Animal Adoption League 56 Dodd St., Bloomfield, NJ 07003
