Nicholas Lupo, of Garwood passed away on July 16, 2024, at the age of 104.
Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation for Nicholas at the Galante Funeral Home, 2800 Morris Ave. Union on Thursday July 18 from 4-8 PM. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Newark on Friday at 10:30 AM. Interment will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in East Orange.
Born in the Ironbound Section of Newark, Nicholas lived in Hillside, Spring Lake Heights and Garwood for many years.
A proud veteran of the US Army, Nick served in the front lines in both Africa and Italy during World War II, attaining the rank of Corporal before his honorable discharge. He started off working as a tailor alongside his wife at their business, Lupo's Cleaners. He later spent time as a crane operator for Western Electric in Kearny, and assumed the chairmanship of IBEW Local #1470's Executive Board. He later established another business, Kwik Lunch, with his brother and another partner. Finally, Nick made significant contributions to the New Jersey State AFL-CIO as the Chief Labor Relations Liaison before his retirement. He was also a longtime member of the Ironbound Association.
Above all, Nick treasured time spent with family and friends.
Nicholas was predeceased by his devoted wife Nettie (nee Villano) Lupo; his son Joseph Lupo, and by his four brothers and three sisters. He is survived by his loving daughter Sandra Wilson and her husband Michael; cherished grandchildren Joseph and Nicholas and his wife Jenna; and by his adored great-grandchildren Nico and Dante.
